About Fox Farm Vineyards
The Story
Fox Farm Vineyards is a small, family-owned winery founded by Thomas Ratcliff, David Fish, & Desiree Neel. In 2005, David, Desiree and Thomas attended a Wine Symposium in the Willamette Valley where they struck up a conversation about starting their own winery. With years of Sommelier experience, David and Thomas set out to make their dream a reality.
In 2007, David and Desiree were married and purchased a home in the Dundee Hills with 5 acres of land in a prime location with Jory soil and a southeast-facing slope perfect for a vineyard. With patience, time and the help of Winemaker Joe Dobbes, Fox Farm Vineyards came to life.
In the following years, David expanded beyond his estate property and acquired leases to vineyard parcels of fine pinot noir across The Dundee Hills, Yamhill-Carlton, Ribbon-Ridge, Chehalem Mountains and Eola-Amity Hills, as well as mature blocks of Syrah grown in southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley. With these added vineyards, Fox Farm Vineyards has slowly grown from 348 cases in our first year to approximately 1,000 cases and counting today.
Fox Farm Vineyards wines are found in some of the finest restaurants, resorts, hotels and casinos. As we grow, we will continue to slowly expand to other on-premises markets.
The People
Founder David Fish is the daily-operations manager at Fox Farm Vineyards. He spends his time researching and selecting vineyards, making harvest decisions, meeting and greeting folks at the tasting room, pouring wines and telling jokes, sharing the stories behind Fox Farm Vineyards, working with out-of-state distributors and drinking lots of coffee.
Founder Thomas Ratcliff is Fox Farm’s biggest promotional force outside of Oregon. His expertise is renowned among hoteliers, chefs, Sommeliers and Master Sommeliers and has gained Fox Farm Vineyards nearly immediate street-cred among industry professionals, introducing our wines to some of the country’s finest palates.
THE WINES – From day one we’ve endeavored to create wines that are true to both vintage and varietal.
We make a variety of red and white wines, including Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, among others. The grapes from our vineyards are fermented in small, separate lots to achieve the highest quality possible, without compromising their unique characteristics. We seek to produce wines that are meant to be elegant, balanced and food-friendly.
When we made our first Rosé, we introduced Kitsune. We use this label for our lighter white and rose wines because it better complements their light and bright characteristics. Perhaps more eastern than western, and more feminine than masculine, Kitsune is the twin to our black label wines in flavor and quality.
